How to record a phone call on Android
Whether your Android phone can record calls depends on its Phone app, its maker and your country. Here is how to check, step by step, for Pixel, Samsung and other phones.
Updated October 2026.
Google Phone app (Pixel and many other phones)
- Open the Phone app by Google and tap the three dots, then Settings.
- Look for Call recording. If it isn't there, your phone or country doesn't support it.
- Choose whether to record all calls from unknown numbers, selected contacts, or only when you tap record.
- During a call, tap Record. Both people hear that the call is being recorded.
Recordings are kept on the phone and appear in your call history under that call.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open the Samsung Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings.
- Tap Record calls and choose automatic or manual recording.
- During a call, tap the three dots and Record call.
Whether Record calls appears depends on your model, carrier and country. Some carrier versions of Galaxy phones hide it.
Why third-party call recorder apps often don't work
Since Android 9, apps can't capture call audio directly, and Google Play no longer allows recorder apps to use accessibility features to get around it. Many "call recorder for Android" apps now record only your side, or record through the microphone on speaker. If an app promises recording "without notification", remember that recording without telling the other person is illegal in many places; see the US state list and the UK, EU and Gulf rules.
A method that works on every Android phone
Record on the phone line instead of the handset. With Dimts, your phone rings like a normal call, the other person hears a short recording notice, and the call is captured on the line, so it doesn't matter which Phone app, maker or Android version you have.
Dimts also writes the notes for you: prices, dates and promises, each linked to the second it was said, plus a drafted follow-up. See the AI note taker for phone calls, or read how to record calls on iPhone.
Questions
How do I record a phone call on Android?
In the Google Phone app, open Settings and look for Call recording, then tap Record during a call. On Samsung, open the Phone app's Settings and tap Record calls. If neither option exists, your phone or country doesn't support built-in recording.
Why is there no call recording option on my Android phone?
Built-in call recording depends on the Phone app, the phone maker, your carrier and your country. Some regions and carrier models don't offer it.
Does Android tell the other person a call is recorded?
The Google Phone app announces the recording to both people. Other phone apps vary, and the law in many places requires you to tell them anyway.
Where are call recordings saved on Android?
With the Google Phone app, recordings are stored on the phone and shown in the call's entry in your call history. Samsung saves them in the Phone app and in the Recordings or Call folder in My Files.
